Blondie,
I had forgotten about the Slack case and teared up reading it. I hope they are tortured everyday in prison.
I don't think the WTS will officially respond. I guarantee that the family statement was handed to them by the WTS legal department.
the case is garnering national attention.
it's pretty evident that both murderer and victim were jws, most likely in "good standing".
the jw angle is playing more prominently as details unfold.

here is some information.. the following prospectus seems to give evidence that the watch tower society is attending an investment conference less than a month after their november 8th court date over the bond motion (see page 4, bottom right).. http://www.imn.org/2012/etm1324/pdfs/etm1324_prospectus.pdf.
read into that what you will.. i would rather not pass comment in case i am accused of sensationalism.. .
cedars.
Yup, looks like the Chief Investment Officer (overseer?? LOL) is attending. Nice place as well.
From a business prospective, this makes all the sense in the world since the WT globaly with all their different corporations I would imagine has sizable invested assets.
From a WT teaching prospective, this seems to be making the most of this system. Is that brother going to be attending meetings in Scottsdale while on his business trip? I hope he's bringing his wife least he be tempted to access the in-room adult movies.
It's really a do as I say not as I do sort of organization.

how sad......
UC - I know man. You're right. And I wonder if that blogger has some sort of JW factor in her own life?
why not just let people leave honorably?
what would it hurt?
i don't get it......
I believe they are afraid that their numbers would drop too much. Also, they would lose their membership in the CULT club if they acted like a normal religion. I think shunning is a key characteristic in running a cult so it's kinda hard to let folks just walk.

Boy, that seems to be a one sided piece of "journalism". We don't know what happened yet or the motivation behind Whitney's killing. When I first saw that Holt was also a JW, I wasn't shocked because this seemed to me like it wasn't random. I'm sure the police will sort things out and they'll need a little time to do so.
But, for a blogger to be openly accusing her of having an affair is over the top. It's one thing if you have evidence but I haven't seen anything like that yet. I've seen some here speculating along that line too and I'm just appalled.
Good God. This poor 21 year old young woman was killed in cold blood. Her husband, her family, and her friends have lost someone dear to them. Can you imagine someone in her family reading this crap??? I know if I were her husband, I'd be tempted to get violent.
I'm not a JW fan either but have some human decency. Let's figure out why this psycho (this word applies whether it turns out to be Holt or it turns out to be someone else) killed her before making all these speculative allegations.
BTW - that statement must have come directly from the WT legal deparment with all of its wording about how they're not to blame. Damn it WT, why does it ALWAYS have to be about you???
my father passed around 9 this morning.
he'd been in poor health for some time, but it still comes as a shock to have him gone.
we are going to miss him terribly.
Jeff, so sorry about your loss.
city contributes $150,000 to jehovahs witnesses convention .

he said the event has been built into the citys annual budget for awhile.. the approval came during a closed session after the regular sept. 18 city council meeting.
It would be so easy to send a RBC crew to help one weekend with a Habitat for Humanity house. It wouldn't cost them a thing and would be good PR. There is no way they are not going to comply for 150k??

I just saw this as well. I agree that its not all that unusual for cities and vistors bureaus to contribute to things like this. However, I'll bet the WTS keeps the cash while asking for donations to cover the entire amount. For the city, it seems like they're still getting a decent deal.
BUT, I love the fact that the city council wants JWs to do ACTUAL charity work. Cleaning the center is fine and it does certainly lower the cost but this part is awesome "providing support or volunteers for a local Habitat for Humanity project, Helping Hands Mission relocation or a food or clothing drive for one of the city’s food banks or shelters. The group could suggest its own partnership, but it must be approved by the City Council."
You know as well as I do that the WTS will comply given how much they love money. I wonder how they'll do it? I think it would be great if other cities followed Raleigh's lead and put some more strings on giving groups like JWs financial assistance so they can hold their meetings/conventions.!!

cedars.
Just read all 8 pages and I appreciate everyone's contributions to this article. I feel that its extremely important to get every detail as accurate as possible because we all know that JWs will jump all over the slightest error to discount the entire article. The bottom line is that the Conti verdict is by far their worse loss in recent history and could be their worse loss ever. Even if its overturned on appeal, I know several JWs that are still talking about it and the PR hit is there and impacting current JWs. Not saying that I know anyone who has left over it but I have had people speak with me confidentially that were once strong JWs who are seeing the WTS as nothing but another religion due to the scandal.
Obviously they need to take this as far as possible because if they end up losing all their appeals, the precedent will have a big financial impact on their operations and they most certainly understand that. This isn't about the 11 million but about the future loss suits, in my opinion.
My opinion is that they're using Patterson as surerty to save the 86k. If they didn't have the money to pay the verdict, they wouldn't have done that. If I were them, I would do the same thing. I'm not sure I'd read too much into that portion of it but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Good job!
our special assembly day is tomorrow, although, i dont live in the states though but still, i wont put the theme of my talk up here; you never can tell, but, i will be mentioning some of the main points i will be highlighting.
1) how jehovah views secular education.
2) what should we be doing now with our precious time, considering that we are living at the finishing line of our relay race.. 3) are we heeding to the instructions given by jehovah's bride?'.
If the Holy Spirit cared about what was going on in WT-land, why is an active elder who has been selected to give a part on a SAD posting on this site???
Most Noble, I've been in similar situation. You're not alone and it will get better.
Meanwhile, be sure to post a review of the special KM school that will happen soon!!!
Welcome to the board by the way.
